Lemons are amazing, aren’t they? they are loaded with vitamin C, are anti-bacterial and great for adding flavor to foods and for cleaning your home!
But how about using lemons to make your skin look radiant and beautiful? Here are some simple things you can try right at home at for just pennies!!
1. lemon juice as a daily detox
If you want that beautiful youthful looking skin that glows and radiates, you will need to do two things:
-
flush toxins out of the body
-
keep skin moist
One of the best and easiest ways to rid your body of those damaging toxins that can really age you is by simply adding a daily lemon detox routine to your beauty regiment.
And this is all you need to do: drink 1-2 glasses of lemon water first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything else. The lemon water will not only help remove the toxins, it will also speed up metabolism and help you lose weight.
To effectively detox your body on a daily basis you also need to drink ½ of your body weight in ounces per day. Remember: water will reach all the other organs BEFORE it reaches the skin, so you need to drink enough water to keep it moist. One way to help you do that is to carry a bottle and keep drinking before you are thirsty!
2. topical lemon juice to shrink large pores
Did you know that lemons are a natural astringent that will cause tissues to shrink or grow smaller to help maintain overall skin clarity? The acidic nature in lemon, a natural skin tightening property is especially helpful for shrinking pores. Hee is a great pores-tightening facial mask recipe that you can try:
-
Mix 1 tablespoon of lemon juice with 2 egg whites
-
Apply to your face for 10 minutes, rinse with warm water, no more than twice a week.
-
Works best right after steaming your face (or after shower)
You can also mix a few drops of lemon juice with water and apply directly to your face a few minutes before washing it. This tip helps to tighten your facial pore and reduce pimples as well.
Note: It is best not to use too much lemon juice and avoid applying lemon juice directly on your face.
If you have oily skin, lemon juice with an added splash of water is a very inexpensive way to minimize acne breakouts by reducing overactive oil glands. If you have dry skin, spot treatment is ideal using a Q-tip or a cotton ball. Be aware that for all skin types, lemon juice can have a drying effect- and using a little every other day goes a long way.
3. Lemon as an excellent skin exfoliator
Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week can do wonders to deep clean clogged pores and help keep acne under control. Another nice thing about exfoliation is that it rejuvenates your skin by effectively getting rid of dead skin cells.
Lemon happen to be one of the best ways to turn back the clock of skin aging. Its great exfoliating properties gently whiten and brighten your skin to give you that youthful glow back! Here are two simple recipes to exfoliate with lemon:
Lemon Grind Exfoliator:
Simply grate the desired amount of the rind needed for your face, knees or elbows. After your skin has just been washed, add water to the lemon zest to gently exfoliate dead skin.
Lemon Exfoliating Peel:
-
Mix 2 TB spoons honey, juice of ¼ lemon and 1 TB spoon of fine salt or fine brown sugar
-
Combine ingredients in a non-metal bowl and stir well
-
Apply one teaspoon of the mixture on clean skin and gently massage using circular movements. After five minutes rinse off with warm water. Do not use more than twice a week. This recipe produces enough scrub for two weeks of twice-weekly treatments
-
Store this scrub for up to two weeks in a cold, clean place in a glass container
4. Pretty nails with lemon
I am sure I am not the only to notice that after using nail polish for some time, the nail bed and cuticles start to become yellow or turn orange. Unfortunately, not only do stained nails look unattractive, they also make you look older.
One super easy way to fix this problem is to apply lemon juice! You can either soak/rub the juice directly on your nails or simply apply the lemon flesh to the nails for ten minutes and voila! Your hand and toe nails will appear cleaner, lighter, and healthier instantly.
You may need to do this a few times to remove the stains completely. Just remember that because lemon juice can be very drying- you need to wash your hands afterward and apply some kind of natural moisturizer like coconut oil.
If you like to dye your hair, even the most organic hennas and dyes can badly stain skin during the application process. The gloves we typically wear during hair dyeing won’t necessarily prevent staining of our forearms. Reach for a lemon or two, slice and use until all of the excess dye is removed. Wash or rinse as usual.
5. Say good bye to dandruff with lemon
You don’t want to forget about the scalp when it comes to maintaining skin health, since a healthy scalp results in a healthy head of hair, right? Although we mean well in terms of using shampoo, conditioner and hair gel, it can eventually spell disaster; otherwise known as dandruff. Make dandruff do a disappearing act by applying two tablespoons of lemon juice directly on the scalp a few times per week. Wait a few minutes and shampoo as usual.
6. Treat your feet to some relief
Do your feet itch? Athlete’s foot can be stopped – literally in its tracks -with the help of lemon juice. Unsightly fungus cannot thrive without moisture and lemon juice mixed with two ounces of water will cure the infection when rinsing your feet. Remember to do this as often as needed until the discomfort is no more.
7. Keep the mosquitoes away
With summer being just around the corner, you’ll probably want to enjoy the sun’s rays and protect your skin from mosquito annoying bites. Don’t forget to bring a spray bottle of lemon juice and water while you’re out bathing in the sun. If you hate the idea of being a feast for mosquitoes, you’ll be relieved to know they despise citrus of any kind J
